Summary

Neil Thwaites will be named vice president of global sales and California commercial performance for Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.

With 15 years in the airline industry, Thwaites joined Alaska Airlines in 2022 as regional vice president of California.

Neil Thwaites will be promoted to vice president of global sales and California commercial performance at Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines. The newly created role is another step in Alaska’s strategic vision to connect guests to the world with a remarkable travel experience rooted in safety, care, and performance.

Nathan Engel

With a rapidly expanding global network, this is a transformational moment for our business, and I’m excited that Neil will be leading our sales team into our global era. This role positions us to accelerate our indirect sales strategy as we continue to grow with the network, premium products, and industry-leading loyalty program to win corporate and leisure guests across the West Coast and beyond.”

Andrew Harrison

Chief commercial officer and executive vice president, Alaska Airlines

The Alaska and Hawaiian network now spans more than 140 destinations, including 29 international markets throughout North America, Latin America, Asia and the Pacific – and Europe starting in 2026. Through the oneworld Alliance and our global partners, guests can access more than 1,000 destinations worldwide. Nonstop flights from Seattle to Rome, London and Reykjavik are on sale now for spring debuts, marking our first-ever European service. By 2030, Alaska plans at least 12 intercontinental destinations from Seattle global gateway, with plans for 17 widebody, long-haul Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft reimagined for a global travel experience. Four are already flying for us today, with a fifth recently delivered.

Growing our global team

Thwaites will lead the strategy and execution of all sales activities for the combined Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines team. His responsibilities include growing indirect revenue on Alaska’s expanding international and domestic network, as well as expanding Atmos for Business, a new program designed for small- and medium-sized companies.

Thwaites joined Alaska Airlines in January 2022 as regional vice president in California. Since stepping into the role, Thwaites has significantly sharpened the airline’s focus and scale in key markets and communities across the state, strengthening Alaska’s position as we continue to grow in California. He will continue to be based at the company’s California offices in Burlingame. The moves take effect Dec. 13, with Thwaites also continuing to lead his current California commercial planning and performance function in addition to Global Sales.

Prior to Alaska, Thwaites worked in multiple positions within the airline industry, including a decade holding roles in London, New York, and Los Angeles for British Airways (a fellow oneworld member); most recently as ‘VP, Sales – Western USA’, where he was responsible for market development strategy and indirect revenue for both British Airways and Iberia across the western U.S.

Thwaites is originally from the United Kingdom and graduated from the University of Brighton with a double honors degree in Business Administration & Law.

Alaska Airlines will return as the presenting sponsor of Seattle’s iconic pyrotechnic and light spectacular to welcome 2026. Hawaiian Airlines established a charitable program — previously known as HawaiianMiles Charities — nearly 20 years ago to provide members an easy, meaningful way to contribute to organizations strengthening Hawaiʻi. The program’s impact has grown annually, with millions of miles (now points) donated by members and matched by the airline to help nonprofits travel where they are needed most.

With Atmos Rewards, the new loyalty program of Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines, the tradition continues under a new name: Atmos Giving by Hawaiian. Members can donate points year-round to any of the 14 partners, helping ensure vital services continue across the state and throughout the Pacific region.

During this holiday season, Hawaiian Airlines encourages Atmos Rewards members and guests to consider supporting these partners by donating points, volunteering, or learning more about each organization’s mission.

Our continued commitment to resilience and reliability

    Alaska-AirGroup-Featured

When running an airline, the only constant is change. Each day more than 1,400 flights take off across Alaska Air Group. Behind every one of them is a complex network of systems, processes, aircraft and the work of our 30,000 dedicated employees. When everything goes as planned, our guests never notice what it takes to get you to your destination.

When something unexpected happens – like a government shutdown or an IT outage – our job is to respond, care for our guests and return to normal operations as soon as possible.

In the last couple months, we’ve seen our fair share of curveballs, and we just provided updated guidance to investors that outlines the corresponding financial impact. Here’s an overview of the impacts from the last quarter and how we’re preparing for the future:

    Government shutdown

In October, the federal government shutdown led the FAA to mandate flight reductions, which resulted in roughly 600 cancellations across Alaska, Hawaiian and our regional operation, impacting approximately 40,000 guests. The disruption and lost revenue are expected to equate to a $30 million loss for the quarter.

The strategic plans we implemented to reduce the impact and the resilience of our operating teams allowed our operation to recover quickly once the shutdown ended.

    IT outages

Following our late October IT outage that affected flight operations, we engaged a third-party consultant to conduct a comprehensive audit of our IT infrastructure and processes. We have begun to implement recommendations and will continue to invest in resiliency in our data centers. The IT outage and a third-party cloud services outage around the same time led to roughly 400 flight cancellations and are expected to cost Alaska a combined $50 million this quarter due to lost revenue and operational recovery costs.

    Returning to resilience and reliability

Despite a year with more turbulence than we planned for, we have made meaningful progress on the integration between Alaska and Hawaiian. In the midst of these challenges, our employees just ran the best operation over Thanksgiving in the industry, with the most on-time performance of any carrier, and we’re well positioned to head into next year focused on executing our Alaska Accelerate strategic plan: launching new service to Europe, unlocking the full power of Atmos Rewards, and bringing our premium experience to even more guests.

Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines soar to the top of Thanksgiving travel

    Summary

In our first combined Thanksgiving travel season since achieving a single operating certificate, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have topped the list for guest reliability

We’re continuing the holiday celebrations across our combined network with newly announced Cyber Week sales

With a record number of passengers taking to the sky this Thanksgiving holiday, Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and our regional air carrier, Horizon Air, provided the most dependable air service to guests on nearly 7,100 flights between Wednesday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 30. This achievement reflects the dedication of our 35,000 employees in delivering outstanding care to our guests.

Collectively, our airlines led U.S. carriers in key performance metrics:

    • A14 (82.3%) – the percentage of flights arriving within 14 minutes of their scheduled time;
    • Completion rate (99.1%) – the proportion of scheduled flights completed without cancellation; and
    • DOT on-time arrivals (80.5%) – the percentage of flights arriving within 14 minutes of their scheduled time, and taking into consideration cancellations, diversions, significant delays and cause of delays.

We appreciate our guests’ trust and confidence in our ability to provide reliable transportation during the busy Thanksgiving holiday time. Our employees consistently deliver a premium, caring experience for our guests, and this Thanksgiving was no exception. I am grateful to those who dedicated their holiday to supporting our guests and maintaining an excellent travel experience.”

From the comfort of their home — or onboard our Wi-Fi equipped cabins — members can contribute at alaskaair.chooose.today/eoy2025 through Dec. 31 as an alternative to the year-end “mileage run.”

In 2023, in partnership with Chooose, Alaska Airlines became the first U.S. passenger airline to offer guests the ability to earn status points by helping offset carbon emissions through SAF contributions when booking a flight. SAF, which can lower life-cycle carbon emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, is a key lever in our five-part path to net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

Over the past two years, more than 80,000 guests have joined us in our efforts to help scale sustainable aviation fuel, providing an important tailwind in our EverGreen journey.

Home for the holidays: A Neighbor Island pilot’s Thanksgiving reflections

    Summary

Growing up island hopping and now flying Boeing 717s, Captain Wailani celebrates how aloha and ʻohana take flight across Hawaiian Airlines’ Neighbor Island network during the festive season.

During the Thanksgiving travel period, Hawaiian Airlines will operate over 140 Neighbor Island flights daily, from before sunrise to well after sunset, to ensure our guests reach their Hawaiʻi holiday destination with ease.

The company of friends and family is what makes the festive season warm and bright. For Hawaiian Airlines Boeing 717 Captain Wailani W., helping people reunite across the Neighbor Islands during the holidays is more than just part of the job — it’s a way to honor the spirit of community and togetherness that defines life in Hawai‘i.

Born and raised on Oʻahu, Wailani has proudly piloted Hawaiian’s Neighbor Island routes since 2022 — a decision that has kept him close to the people and places he loves most.

“Sometimes when I’m flying, I think about being a kid and taking the DC-9 to visit family on the other islands. Now, as a 717 pilot, I take a lot of pride in helping kamaʻāina (residents) and local families make similar travel memories — especially during the holidays.”

During the Thanksgiving travel period, we’ll operate over 140 Neighbor Island flights daily, as early as 5:30 a.m. and as late as 9:30 p.m., to ensure our guests reach their Hawaiʻi holiday destination with ease.

While our local network helps bridge the Neighbor Islands and Hawaiʻi’s remote communities year-round, that connectivity carries even deeper meaning during the holidays.

“On the 717, we take a lot of pride in serving guests from all over by providing them with a safe and comfortable Neighbor Island travel experience so they can be with loved ones for life’s most important shared moments,” Wailani explained.

“There’s definitely a stronger sense of togetherness onboard this time of year, and it reminds me how special and unique our Island home is,” Wailani added. For him, every Neighbor Island trip is more than just another flight — it’s an opportunity to welcome every guest with aloha and keep Hawaiʻi connected.

“We’re all ʻohana at Hawaiian Airlines, and weʻll welcome every passenger this Thanksgiving as a part of that ʻohana.”

    Wailani’s Hawaiʻi holiday travel tips

Plan for spotty weather and stay flexible

This time of year is ānuenue (rainbow) season, with frequent passing showers and crisp mornings. Higher elevations can also bring cooler temperatures. Pack appropriately and embrace Hawaiʻiʻs unique winter charm.

    Give yourself extra time

Holiday travel means busier airports. Give yourself some extra time by checking in and paying for any bags on our mobile app and website before arriving at the airport.

Kamaʻāina, don’t forget about your Huakaʻi by Hawaiian perks

Huakaʻi by Hawaiian members enjoy a free checked bag – inclusive of surfboards, golf bags and other sports equipment – on Neighbor Island flights, as well as exclusive travel deals.

    Show aloha always

Be kind and courteous to our employees – from gate agents to flight attendants – and, most importantly, to one another.

    Statement on Olympic Pipeline impacts

    Nov. 25, 2025 – 10:30 a.m. PT

With the expected resumption of service from the Olympic Pipeline serving SeattleTacoma International Airport, we are returning to normal operations. We have discontinued all planned fuel stops but will continue to tanker and truck in additional fuel on a reduced basis as the pipeline increases to normal capacity. No other operational impacts are expected. Thank you to our guests for their understanding as we worked to minimize the impacts from the fuel leak.

    Nov. 24, 2025 – 12:30 p.m. PT

We continue to minimize the impacts of the Olympic Pipeline fuel leak. We do not expect disruption to our operations at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport through the Thanksgiving travel week.

To ensure our scheduled service is maintained,  we have implemented strategies to manage our fuel:

    1. Tankering fuel on inbound flights to Seattle – including the ability to roundtrip fuel from the departure city, reducing the amount of fuel needed from SEA;
    2. Maintaining and expanding trucking operations to bring in additional fuel supply;
    3. Adding a fuel stop to roughly a dozen flights per day. A fuel stop allows a flight to depart Seattle with limited fuel, land at an airport along the flight’s route to on board additional fuel and then continue onto the destination airport – without passengers deplaning. The dozen flights selected for a fuel stop change daily but are focused on transcontinental routes (such as SEA-JFK) and flights to the Hawaiian Islands. Similarly, the fuel stop locations change daily. We sincerely apologize to the guests whose flights are impacted.

We have not canceled any flights due to fuel supply issues because of our ability to manage fuel using these strategies. We remain in close communication with Olympic Pipeline, refineries and our airport partners, and will communicate if we begin to see operational impacts.
