About Hawaiian Airlines
For more than 96 years, Hawaiian Airlines has been woven into the fabric of life in the islands. In 1929, operating under our original name, Inter-Island Airways, we took flight into history, launching commercial aviation in Hawaiʻi with a humble fleet of just two aircraft. Today we offer the largest and most convenient network of flights for kamaʻāina (residents) and visitors, connecting communities, carrying cargo and supporting economic activity.
We do more than just fly — we share the spirit of Hawai‘i around the world. From the naming of our aircraft to our onboard hoʻokipa (hospitality) and cabin design, every detail reflects our home. Guided by aloha and kuleana (responsibility), we proudly serve our communities and welcome our guests with warmth and a deep respect for the culture that defines us.
The Hawaiian Airlines brand is here to stay
Now that Hawaiian Airlines has combined passenger service systems with Alaska Airlines, we look forward to welcoming guests with a smoother, more modern and consistent booking-to-boarding travel experience across both airlines. Hawaiian flights will remain clearly branded across our website and app with our iconic Pualani tail. Onboard, our guests will enjoy the island-inspired products they love — from our Sig Zane uniform partnership to our collaborations with local chefs for inflight food and beverages.
Our history
Hawaiian Airlines was founded in Hawaiʻi on Jan. 30, 1929. Initially operating under the alias Inter-Island Airways Ltd., our founders had a bold vision: to bridge communities across the Hawaiian Islands and usher in a new era of connectivity by air. That day, thousands gathered in Honolulu to witness the first-ever scheduled inter-island flight to Hawaiʻi Island, with a stop on Maui. That monumental day marked the beginning of commercial air travel in Hawaiʻi.
Today, Hawaiian Airlines remains Hawaiʻi’s flagship carrier, connecting the islands and offering our guests a global network reaching across the Pacific, Asia, Oceania, North America and beyond.
Investing in our home
As Hawaiʻi’s largest and longest-serving airline, we work as one ʻohana (family). We are committed to mālama (care for) the fragile natural resources that sustain us and make Hawaiʻi special, while supporting the social and economic well-being of our island home.
Careers and opportunities
Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines hire for positions throughout Hawai‘i and our combined network, offering competitive pay, generous medical and travel benefits, paid training and more. Together, we are an airline that is going places — and your career can, too.
