Hawaiian Airlines adjusts network to boost capacity in high-demand international, domestic Hawai‘i markets by suspending three underperforming routes

HONOLULU – Hawaiian Airlines will adjust its transpacific network beginning in November by increasing capacity on international and domestic markets with strong travel demand to and from Hawai‘i while suspending three underperforming routes. The airline announced it will suspend service between Honolulu and Incheon, South Korea (5x weekly), Fukuoka, Japan (3x weekly), and Boston (4x weekly) and redeploy aircraft to boost flights between Honolulu and Sydney, Australia, Papeete, Tahiti, Los Angeles and Seattle, and support operations across its Hawai‘i network.

“It’s always a difficult decision to suspend a route, especially in cities like Seoul, which we have enjoyed serving for over 14 years. However, despite our team’s best efforts, soft post-pandemic travel demand from Asia combined with various market challenges have persisted in Seoul, as well as in Fukuoka and Boston, both of which we entered in 2019,” said Hawaiian Airlines CEO Joe Sprague. “We remain committed to continuing to provide robust Hawaiian Airlines service between Asia and Hawai‘i through our nonstop Japan flights, and via one-stop connections to and from Incheon and beyond with our global partner airlines. These adjustments will ensure we are meeting strong demand for travel to Hawaiʻi – both internationally and domestically – while providing all our guests access to more destinations.”

As part of the network changes, Hawaiian is reinvesting capacity into other flying to and from Hawai‘i by:

  • Increasing Honolulu-Sydney service with daily flights – up from five weekly flights – from Dec. 18 through Jan. 31.
  • Offering two weekly Honolulu-Papeete flights – up from one weekly flight — starting in March.
  • Launching a fifth daily flight between Honolulu and Los Angeles in peak seasons, starting Nov. 21 to Dec. 1, and Dec. 19 to Jan. 6.
  • Adding a fourth Honolulu-Seattle daily flight from late November to mid-April.

Hawaiian Airlines guests can continue to fly between Hawai‘i and Incheon or Fukuoka via one-stop itineraries through Hawaiian’s other Japan destinations, including twice-daily Honolulu-Haneda and daily Osaka services, and partner carriers, including oneworld alliance members. Hawaiian Airlines will also launch nonstop flights five times a week between Seattle and Incheon on Sept. 12. Between Honolulu and Boston, guests can connect daily on Alaska Airlines’ flights via Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and San Diego.

Hawaiian will operate its last flights from Fukuoka and Boston to Honolulu on Nov. 19, and from Incheon to Honolulu on Nov. 21. Impacted guests will be offered options to be reaccommodated on other flights or receive a refund.

Since combining last September, Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines today offer over 200 daily flights in Hawai‘i – the most of any carrier – providing nonstop access between the islands and 22 domestic and international destinations and connections to 131 cities in North and Central America through Alaska’s network. Hawaiian operates some 140 daily flights between the islands, and approximately 31 weekly nonstop flights between Honolulu and Tokyo and Osaka in Japan; Sydney, Australia; Tahiti, American Samoa, and the Cook Islands, in addition to offering seasonal service to Auckland, New Zealand. Starting next spring, the combined company will launch nonstop service between Seattle and Rome, London and Iceland – with one-stop connections to and from Hawai‘i.

RAVE Foundation, the charitable arm of Reign FC, and Looking Out Foundation, the charitable organization founded by award-winning musical artist Brandi Carlile, invite fans to RISE TOGETHER for community on August 29 – in an effort to champion Reign FC’s commitment to advance equity in play and life by supporting the needs of Mary’s Place

Reign FC also launches “First Match On Us” initiative in partnership with Alaska Airlines, inviting first-time attendees to experience the match and witness the Club’s unwavering commitment to community.

Seattle Reign FC is proud to announce its Rise Together match at Lumen Field on Friday, August 29, bringing fans together for a night of soccer, music and meaningful community impact. In partnership with RAVE Foundation, the Reign’s charitable arm, whose mission is to use soccer as a vehicle to inspire youth and strengthen communities – and Looking Out Foundation, artist Brandi Carlile’s nonprofit grantmaking organization that seeks to amplify music’s impact for change. The match will spotlight a shared commitment to equity, justice and collective action.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with RAVE Foundation and Seattle Reign FC to make music mean more,” said Gloria Goeres, Executive Director of Looking Out Foundation. “At Looking Out Foundation, we seek to amplify the impact of music and the arts to empower those who are often overlooked and underserved. We know the Reign FC fanbase is one of community and powerful togetherness and we are excited for this chance to leverage that for an incredible organization. Mary’s Place has spent over 25 years providing safety, dignity, and a sense of home to women, families and children in King County. We are grateful for their mission and this chance to support and expand their impact,” she added.

As an important element of the Rise Together match – Reign FC will introduce “First Match On Us,” a new initiative presented by Alaska Airlines that offers complimentary tickets to first-time attendees, making this night of purpose and connection accessible to first-time fans as well as loyal, long-time Reign supporters.

“Our ‘First Match On Us’ initiative lets us give back to our hometown in a way that really matters,” said Eric Edge, Vice President of Brand and Marketing at Alaska Airlines. “By making Seattle Reign’s Rise Together match more accessible, we can share the excitement of the NWSL with new fans while highlighting the meaningful work of local community partners.”

This marks meaningful collaboration between Reign FC, the club’s charitable arm RAVE Foundation and the Looking Out Foundation. United by a belief in uplifting marginalized voices and driving tangible change, the three organizations are joined by RAVE partners Seattle Storm and Symetra in investing in the creation of play spaces (a soccer mini pitch and a half basketball court) at the new Mary’s Place location with construction underway in Burien, Washington. In addition to these play spaces, the group will invest programs that use sports and art to support the overall wellness of the Mary’s Place community.

“I can’t imagine a better match for first time fans to attend,” said Ashley Fosberg, Reign FC Chief Impact and Fan Engagement Officer and RAVE Foundation Executive Director. “It’ll be an inspiring display of Reign FC’s commitment to our community – and everyone attending will have the chance to pitch in, support, or just learn more.”

As part of the matchday experience, fans will be invited to help pack supply bags for Mary’s Place guests, take part in donation drives and learn how to support local organizations through direct action. Looking Out Foundation will also activate its national volunteer coalition to amplify the event and deepen its impact.

To mark the occasion, the club is offering a special Rise Together experience, featuring donation activations, community storytelling and in-stadium opportunities to give back. First-time fans are encouraged to claim their complimentary ticket through First Match On Us, courtesy of Alaska Airlines.

Our internship program can often lead to full-time employment, which not only helps to develop the next generation of talent in the aviation industry, but also serves as a pipeline for our Talent Acquisition team when filling entry-level roles at AAG.”

Gary

Pilot intern at Alaska Airlines

Senior at Delaware State University, majoring in aviation

“My favorite part of this internship is being able to jump seat across the country. It puts everything into perspective, and I get to see what I’m training for in the professional world,” Gary shared. “What has stuck with me at Alaska is the strong safety culture across the entire company.”

The life of a pilot intern is constantly changing. They practice flight scenarios in our flight simulators and gain real world experience jump seating around the country. The jump seat is an auxiliary seat in the cockpit that is available to airline staff, which the pilot interns are cleared to sit in to allow them to gain experience firsthand.

Finn

Airport operations and customer support team – safety intern at Alaska Airlines

Senior at Emory University, majoring in business administration

“Alaska Airlines is opening doors for me by giving me the opportunity to work here in an operational support role. It’s allowed me to explore different areas of the company,” Finn explained. “Before this internship, I thought I knew what I wanted to do in aviation. But this experience has opened my eyes to so many other different career paths I hadn’t considered before.”

As an intern in operations support, Finn helps uphold Alaska’s commitment to safety, including processing safety reports from airport operations and customer service to support their safety program.

Lucia

Financial planning and analysis intern at Horizon Air

Junior at the University of Washington, majoring in economics

“I chose Horizon Air because I believe data is the foundation for innovation, and I wanted to work somewhere that uses data to actively improve customer experiences,” Lucia said. “Working at Horizon Financial Planning and Analysis has allowed me to experience the broad impact of financial data.”

In her role, Lucia is learning how numbers tell a bigger story and shape Horizon’s operations. She assists in crunching the numbers by digging into financial patterns. She’s already turned them into ideas of how Horizon can make improvements on cost control and has provided divisions with the resources they need such as budget templates.

Maya

Communications intern at Alaska Airlines

Senior at the University of Oregon, majoring in public relations

As one of the summer interns, I’m especially proud to share these stories – because I get to live one too.

Every day looks a little different for me. From collaborating with the internal and external communications teams to traveling to different Alaska hubs to work with our employees on the frontline, my work is centered around engaging storytelling and promoting our brand image. In communications, being rooted in our strong shared values is important. I’m fortunate to see those values play out every day.

I chose Alaska for its culture — the focus on culture and belonging, commitment to safety and the clear opportunities for personal and professional growth. I’m especially grateful to the leaders who challenge me to think critically and encourage me to strengthen my communication skills. Their support has made this internship not only valuable, but truly transformative.

Honolulu is the company’s second-largest hub after Seattle, with more than 6,500 Hawaiʻi-based employees who each day welcome onboard thousands of residents and visitors, and move cargo, between the Neighbor Islands and on domestic and international transpacific routes served by more than 180 daily flights – the biggest Hawai‘i network of any carrier. The Honolulu leadership team will support several thousand frontline employees in the islands while also managing ongoing integration work, including the rollout of a combined loyalty program launching this fall and the adoption of a single passenger service system next spring.

Onishi, who joined Hawaiian Airlines in 2011, will lead marketing and brand management for Hawaiian, and the organization’s multi-brand marketing strategy and cross-brand uniform program. She will also focus on ongoing enhancements to Hawaiian’s guest experience in partnership with the Guest Products and Experience team.

A head of Hawai‘i guest operations position will soon be named and will join the Honolulu leadership team this fall when the single operating certificate is acquired.

“Hawaiʻi will always be Hawaiian Airlines’ home, and I’m so proud to serve alongside our Honolulu leadership team and our 6,500-plus team members in the islands to build on Hawaiian’s 95-year legacy of providing safe, reliable and enjoyable service to our communities. We all look forward to continuing to deliver greater value to our kama‘āina and visitors through our expanding, joint network with Alaska Airlines, a new combined loyalty program arriving in October, and much more in the months and years ahead.”

– Joe Sprague

Alaska Air Group reports second quarter 2025 results

AAG banner

Summary

Announced first transatlantic route in Air Group history: Seattle to Rome starting May 2026

Alaska Mileage Plan named #1 airline rewards program by U.S. News & World Report for the 11th consecutive year

Reported earnings per share of $1.42, with adjusted earnings per share of $1.78, ahead of Wall Street expectation and previous guidance range

Alaska Air Group (NYSE: ALK) today reported financial results for the second quarter ending June 30, 2025.

The Alaska and Hawaiian teams closed out an impactful quarter that included the launch of a global network transformation and performance that beat expectations.

The results this quarter are clear evidence of our team’s disciplined execution and unwavering focus on what we can control: delivering a remarkable guest experience, driving operational excellence and unlocking the value of our newly combined network and commercial platform. I’ve never been more confident in our team of 30,000 to execute our Alaska Accelerate plan and position Air Group for long-term success.

– Ben Minicucci

President & CEO of Alaska Air Group

Quarter in Review

Air Group’s Consolidated Statements of Operations, Consolidated Balance Sheets, and Summary Cash Flow Statement include Hawaiian Airlines from September 18, 2024 onward. For comparability of financial and operational results, historical information has also been provided on a pro forma basis within the Supplementary Pro Forma Comparative Financial and Operating Information in this filing and in prior 8-K filings. The pro forma information provided assumes Hawaiian is included in both 2024 and 2025.

Air Group delivered strong second quarter results, with a Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) pretax margin of 6.4% and a GAAP net income per share of $1.42.

Our adjusted pretax margin was 8.0% and our adjusted earnings per share was $1.78, exceeding the high end of our previously issued guidance. Just 10 months post-acquisition, Hawaiian’s second quarter adjusted pretax margin expanded by 11-points versus prior year, surpassing breakeven for the first time since 2019. Our second quarter results affirm our strategy is delivering notable progress across the network and providing greater connectivity for our guests. Our team is delivering on the initiatives that underpin Alaska Accelerate and we remain committed to delivering our goal of $1 billion in incremental profit by 2027.

Second quarter record revenue topped $3.7 billion, resulting in year-over-year RASM that is down 0.6%, which we believe will once again lead the industry. This performance is enabled by our commercial initiatives and focus on revenue diversification; in the second quarter 49% of revenue was generated outside the main cabin. Premium revenue grew 5% year-over-year, cargo revenue grew 34% year-over-year, and our loyalty program cash remuneration grew 5% year-over-year.

Unit costs excluding fuel, freighter costs, and special items increased 6.5% year-over-year, in line with prior guidance. Economic fuel price per gallon was $2.39 in the second quarter, reflecting both moderating crude oil and West Coast refining prices throughout much of the quarter. During the quarter Hawaiian Airlines experienced a cybersecurity incident. We took immediate steps to safeguard our airlines and remain engaged with authorities and experts to conclude our investigation. Our operations were not affected.

Third Quarter Forecast Information

We have recently seen a positive inflection in traffic, yield and revenue intake for both Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines’ bookings. We have also adjusted our 2025 capacity expectations to approximately 2% year-over-year growth. These changes reflect 2-point reductions in off-peak flying in the third and fourth quarters relative to our prior expectations, and are expected to be margin accretive. With recent changes to the demand environment, and our continued delivery on synergy and commercial initiative commitments, our outlook for full year earnings per share is greater than $3.25.

Our third quarter adjusted earnings per share is expected to be between $1.00 and $1.40, including an expected ~10 cent impact from an IT outage that resulted in irregular operations in July. Costs remain in line with our expectation, and reflect strategic investments as well as elevated real estate costs, maintenance costs and new labor agreements. Our capacity expectations will pressure unit costs in the third quarter, which are expected to be up mid to high single digits year-over-year, before improving meaningfully in the fourth quarter. We still anticipate delivering full year unit costs in line with our prior expectations.

Financial Results and Updates

Reported GAAP net income for the second quarter of 2025 of $172 million, or $1.42 per share, which includes Hawaiian results, compared to net income of $220 million, or $1.71 per share, for the second quarter of 2024, which does not include Hawaiian results.

Reported net income for the second quarter of 2025, excluding special items and other adjustments, of $215 million, or $1.78 per share, which includes Hawaiian results, compared to net income of $327 million, or $2.55 per share, for the second quarter of 2024, which does not include Hawaiian results.

Repurchased 8.7 million shares of common stock for approximately $428 million in the second quarter, bringing total repurchases to 10.5 million shares for approximately $535 million for the six months ended June 30, 2025.

Generated $376 million in operating cash flow for the second quarter.

Held $2.1 billion in unrestricted cash and marketable securities as of June 30, 2025.

Alaska Airlines’ statement on IT outage – July 2025

AS header

Monday, July 21 – 8 p.m. Pacific Time

Flight operations at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are returning to normal following a significant IT outage that resulted in a system-wide ground stop of flights. The ground stop began around 8 p.m. on Sunday and was lifted three hours later.

A critical piece of multi-redundant hardware at our data centers, manufactured by a third-party, experienced an unexpected failure. When that happened, it impacted several of our key systems that enable us to run various operations, necessitating the implementation of a ground stop to keep aircraft in position. The safety of our flights was never compromised.

Since Sunday evening, we’ve had more than 200 flight cancellations. We experienced 116 cancellations on Monday, which affected the travel plans of 15,600 guests. Additional cancellations are possible.

The IT outage was unrelated to any other current events and was not a cybersecurity incident.

We are currently working with our vendor to replace the hardware equipment at the data center.

We appreciate the patience of our guests whose travel plans have been disrupted. We’re working to get them to their destinations as quickly as we can. If you’re traveling today, please check your flight status before leaving for the airport. Also, a flexible travel policy is in place to support our guests.

Hawaiian Airlines’ newest Featured Chef, Jason Peel, brings a taste of home to 30,000 feet

Jason Peel

At Hawaiian Airlines, we believe travel should be a journey for all the senses — including your taste buds. That’s why we’re thrilled to welcome Chef Jason Peel of Nami Kaze Hawaiʻi as the newest chef in our Featured Chef Series. Now through the end of November, his homegrown, island-style take on our First Class menu will be served on flights from Hawaiʻi to the U.S. continent (except BOS and JFK).

From Kaua‘i to the Skies

Born and raised on Kaua‘i, Chef Jason’s culinary journey is a blend of humble beginnings, global experiences and a deep love for Hawai‘i. With Japanese and Irish heritage, his cooking reflects a fusion of cultures and a reverence for tradition. After graduating from the acclaimed culinary program at Oʻahu’s Kapi‘olani Community College (KCC), he honed his skills under renowned chefs like Ian Russo and Roy Yamaguchi, traveling the world and eventually returning home to shape Hawai‘i’s culinary future with locally sourced ingredients.

From mentoring students at KCC to co-leading the Hawai‘i Food and Wine Festival, Chef Jason’s love of cooking has always been more about good food — it’s an extension of his passion for community, culture and connection.

A Menu That Tells a Story

Chef Jason’s in-flight creations are inspired by the flavors of his childhood, the people around him and the spirit of Hawai‘i. His dishes are designed to be comforting yet elevated, nostalgic yet innovative — perfect for travelers seeking a taste of the Hawaiian Islands before they even land.

Here’s a sneak peek at what First Class guests can look forward to:

Brunch

  • Savory egg custard with Arabiki pork sausage – A rich, island-style twist on a classic.
  • Seasonal fruits, yogurt and granola – Light, fresh and perfect for a morning flight.

Lunch and Dinner

  • Beef meatloaf with grated radish and ponzu – A hearty, umami-packed entrée with a citrusy zing.
  • Teriyaki roasted eggplant – A vegetarian favorite served with steamed rice and pickled radish.
  • Okinawan sweet potato and haupia cake – A sweet finish that’s as beautiful as it is delicious.

Late Night

  • Char siu chicken sandwich with hoisin garlic cream cheese – A bold, flavorful bite.
  • Spicy vegetable lasagna – Inspired by Chef Peel’s favorite school lunch memory, reimagined with local vegetables and a creamy Parmesan Mornay sauce.

Cooking with Aloha at Altitude

Creating meals for thousands of guests at 30,000 feet is no small feat — but for Chef Jason, it’s a labor of love. “The process excites me the most,” he said. “I love how all these amazing people made it possible for me to create local dishes here in Hawaiʻi and then scale them so they can be shared with thousands of Hawaiian Airlines’ guests.”

CHEFJASON0312250276

His goal? To enhance your travel experience without overshadowing it. “I just want to be one of many happy, nostalgic memories created on a guest’s journey,” he added.

Whether you’re flying home after a Hawaiʻi vacation or taking a trip to the U.S. continent, Chef Jason’s dishes are a warm welcome and a celebration of local ingredients, shared memories and the joy of travel — Hawaiian style.

So next time you’re flying with us, sit back, relax and enjoy a meal made with aloha.
