ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Oct. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Veteran public relations consultant Tim Thompson has joined Alaska Airlines as manager of public affairs for the state of Alaska. Thompson will manage Alaska Airlines’ public affairs and community relations programs in the state, including charitable giving, sponsorships and the airline’s Community Advisory Boards.

Thompson is replacing Susan Bramstedt, Alaska Airlines’ third most-senior employee, who will retire Oct. 10 after serving 45 years with the carrier.

"Tim has a vast knowledge of the state and more than 20 years of communications experience in a variety of disciplines," said Marilyn Romano, Alaska Airlines regional vice president – Alaska. Thompson is a former partner in Anchorage-based Thompson & Co. Public Relations, where he worked with a number of Alaska businesses and non-profits providing counsel on public relations, media relations, event planning, social media and crisis management. He also served with the Alaska Railroad Corp. as director of external affairs, overseeing charitable giving and community relations. Thompson also worked as an assignment manager at KTUU Channel 2 in Anchorage for 12 years.

A lifelong resident of Alaska, Thompson holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Alaska Pacific University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage. He is a current board member and past chair of Anchorage School Business Partnerships.
