The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan was named Frequent Flyer Program of the Year at the 16th Annual Freddie Awards last week. The awards, voted on by frequent flyers across the nation, also gave Alaska top marks for "Best Newsletter" (The Traveler and alaskaair.com newsletter).

Additionally, Alaska came in a close second in total votes for three additional categories: "Best Elite Level," "Best Website" and "Best Affinity Credit Card."

Voters mentioned Alaska’s expanded route network, reasonable award levels, lucrative bonus promotions and outstanding customer service as reasons for Mileage Plan’s top rating.

"We’re incredibly excited to win this award for the second year in a row," said Ann Ardizzone, Alaska’s managing director of marketing programs, who accepted the awards in New York. "It’s a tribute to a lot of dedicated people here who continue to keep our most important customers’ wants and needs in mind."

Created by InsideFlyer magazine publisher Randy Peterson in 1988, the Freddies are considered among the most prestigious consumer-generated awards in the airline industry. The awards are named after Sir Freddie Laker, a commercial aviation pioneer from England who founded Britain’s first all-jet air carrier, Laker Airways Limited in 1966.
