OCT. 1*** WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 1, beginning at 1 p.m. Pacific time (Unveiling shortly after 2 p.m.) WHAT: Alaska Airlines will unveil its "Salmon-Thirty-Salmon" aircraft during a Salmon homecoming event at the airline's hangar at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Thousands of Alaska Airlines employees, guests and dignitaries are expected to attend. The aircraft is one of the world's most intricately painted commercial aircraft and celebrates the critical role Alaska Airlines plays in transporting Alaska seafood. WHERE: Alaska Airlines Maintenance Hangar, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, 18560 Alaska Service Road, Seattle, Wash., 98158. PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES: An elevated platform will be available to photograph the aircraft's unveiling. Please call in advance to ensure adequate space is available. -- 1 p.m. -- Thousands of Alaska Airlines employees, guests and dignitaries gather in hangar, enjoy fish-themed activities -- 1:50 p.m. -- Formal presentation on stage located inside hangar -- 2:10 p.m. -- Welcoming dance performed by Alaska Native dancers -- 2:15 p.m. -- Aircraft unveiled with water cannon salute, aircraft door opens, Alaska salmon tossed from aircraft by world-famous Pike Place Fish Market "fish throwers" and fish boxes unloaded from aircraft -- 2:30 p.m. -- Salmon homecoming activities, including seafood barbecue feast and fish-tossing contest RSVP: Members of the media planning to cover the event should contact Amanda Tobin at 206-392-5134. DIRECTIONS: From Interstate 5, take the S. 188th St. exit (#152) toward S. 188th St. Turn west on S. 188th St. Pass International Blvd and 28th Ave. S. Take the next right at the Alaska Airlines Maintenance and Engineering Center sign. This road quickly turns to the right. Proceed past the white security station. The event hangar is the first tall building to the left with a large Alaska Airlines logo visible. Park in the lot directly outside of the maintenance hangar and display media identification in dashboard of vehicle. Enter through hangar doors immediately across from parking area. Check in at media table in front of or directly inside entrance doors.
