In anticipation of the start of the Copper River Salmon craze, Alaska Airlines today announced it is open season for the airline’s Copper River Salmon Sweepstakes. The sweepstakes celebrates Alaska-caught Copper River Salmon’s status as one of the nation’s most-prized healthy foods, as well as the critical role the airline plays in transporting fresh Alaska seafood to the Lower 48 states and beyond.

Sweepstakes winners will net Copper River Salmon-themed prizes. Twenty winners will each receive 20 pounds of fresh Copper River Salmon filets from Prime Select Seafoods delivered to their door by Alaska Air Cargo’s GoldStreak service. The grand-prize winner will receive an all-inclusive Alaskan fishing adventure for four hosted by the Alaskan Wilderness Outfitting Company in Cordova, Alaska, the home of the Copper River Salmon run.

"People are crazy for Copper River Salmon and other fresh wild Alaska seafood. And, so are we," said Greg Latimer, Alaska’s managing director of brand and product marketing. "Alaska Airlines is proud to play a significant role in transporting much of Alaska’s fresh seafood from the water to the dinner table in record time, often in less than 24 hours."

During 2005, Alaska Airlines transported more than 30 million pounds of seafood from Alaska to markets in the contiguous United States, Mexico and Canada. To symbolize this unique relationship between the airline and the Alaska fishing industry, in October 2005 Alaska Airlines debuted the "Salmon- Thirty-Salmon," a Boeing 737-400 aircraft painted with the image of an Alaska king salmon.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members and members of the general public can enter the Copper River Salmon Sweepstakes now through April 28, 2006, on the airline’s Web site, alaskaair.com.
