Alaska Airlines debuted an online consumer sweepstakes today in celebration of the upcoming 10-year anniversary of its industry-leading Web site, alaskaair.com. The "alaskaair.com Take Ten Sweepstakes" offers Web site visitors a chance to win a range of travel prizes, including one of 10 Alaska Airlines Vacations getaways for 10, as well as first-class airfare certificates and mileage redeemable for air travel. In addition, each person who enters will receive a $10 discount off a purchase at alaskaair.com.

"With the introduction of alaskaair.com 10 years ago, Alaska Airlines set the new industry standard for using technology to make the experience of reserving and purchasing an airline ticket online as customer-friendly as possible," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska’s staff vice president of e-commerce and distribution. "Today, more than one-third of our customers use alaskaair.com to book their travel."

Jarvis said the sweepstakes, which starts today and continues through Nov. 7, 2005, is the airline’s way of thanking its customers for a decade of clicking on alaskaair.com. Ten grand prize winners will receive a "Take Ten Getaway." The grand prize allows the winner and up to 10 guests to enjoy an Alaska Airlines Vacation package to any Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air destination, including popular vacation spots in Mexico, Florida, Alaska and California.

When Alaska introduced alaskaair.com in December 1995, it became the first domestic airline to sell tickets over the Internet. Since then, the carrier has continued to introduce technology innovations to streamline the travel process. In 1996, Alaska installed airport check-in kiosks and, in 1999, it was the first airline to offer Internet check-in.

The improvements have earned Alaska Airlines a variety of awards. The carrier has been named one of InformationWeek magazine’s Top 500 Business- Technology Innovators in each of the last five years. Alaska earned Reader’s Digest magazine’s Best Airline Innovation Award in 2005 for its online check- in. And in 2003, Alaska received an Airline Technology Leadership Award from Air Transport World magazine.
