Alaska Airlines will launch daily nonstop service starting Sept. 8 between Portland and Orlando, Fla., and Sept. 9 between Portland and Boston.

To celebrate the new service, customers who travel by Oct. 31, 2007, will earn double Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan miles. For a limited time, Alaska Airlines Vacations also is offering special discounts on complete vacation packages from Portland to the Walt Disney World(r) Resort in Orlando. Reservations, tickets and Mileage Plan information are available at http://www.alaskaair.com/ or (800) ALASKAAIR.

"Our new Boston and Orlando service expands the nonstop options available from Portland International Airport," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska’s vice president of sales, marketing and customer experience. "The flights will give customers from Portland — and those connecting from throughout the Pacific Northwest — more convenient and frequent opportunities to visit two of the most popular East Coast destinations."

Portland-Orlando flights will depart Portland at 9:25 p.m. Pacific time and arrive in Orlando at 5:45 a.m. Eastern time. Return flights will depart Orlando at 7 a.m. Eastern time and arrive in Portland at 10:10 a.m. Pacific time.

Portland-Boston flights will depart at 7 a.m. Pacific time and arrive at 3:15 p.m. Eastern time. Return flights will depart at 4:15 p.m. Eastern time and arrive at 7:35 p.m. Pacific time.

The flights will be operated on Boeing 737-700 aircraft, accommodating 12 passengers in first class and 112 in the main cabin. All flights will offer Alaska’s Northern Bites meals-for-purchase service, which allows passengers in the main cabin to purchase a meal onboard for $5. The flights also will offer Alaska’s digEplayer inflight entertainment system, a handheld video-on-demand device featuring first-run movies, television programs and other entertainment options. The digEplayers are complimentary in first class and available for $10 in the main cabin.

Alaska Airlines and its sister carrier, Horizon Air, serve 34 destinations nonstop from Portland and offer more daily departures from Portland than any other airline. Last fall, Alaska launched seasonal nonstop service between Portland and the Mexican resort destinations of Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta.

Alaska introduced transcontinental service in 2001 when the airline launched its Seattle-Washington, D.C. route. In addition to the new Portland flights, Alaska flies nonstop transcontinental routes between Seattle and Boston, Newark, N.J., Washington, D.C., Orlando and Miami; and between Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.
