Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air launched a spring fare sale with discounted fares as low as $49 between Portland, Ore., and the Bay Area and Sacramento, Calif. Tickets must be purchased by March 20 for travel from March 20 through May 31, 2009.

"With 19 flights a day between Portland and the Bay Area, this is a great time to explore these wonderful destinations or to catch up with friends and family," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience.

Fare rules: Tickets must be purchased between March 13 and March 20, 2009, for travel between March 20 and May 31, 2009, with a seven-day advance purchase. Blackout dates are May 17, 21 and 22, and May 25, 2009. Travelers are responsible for the following taxes and fees, as applicable: Airport Passenger Facility charges of up to $9 (amount depends on itinerary), Federal Segment Tax of $3.60 per segment (takeoff and landing), and U.S. Security Fee of $2.50 per enplanement.

Other important information: All taxes and fees shown are based on one-way travel and may be doubled if traveling round trip. Tickets purchased at an Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air airport location or through an Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air reservation call center will cost $15 more per person than the advertised fare. Tickets are nonrefundable but can be changed. Ticket changes made through an Alaska Airlines reservation call center or airport ticket counter incur a $100 (USD) per person change fee or a $125 (USD) per person change fee if originally booked through a travel agent and changed through an Alaska Airlines reservation call center or ticket counter, plus applicable fees and any difference in fare. Changes made at alaskaair.com incur a $75 (USD) per person change fee plus applicable fees and any difference in fare. Tickets must be purchased within 24 hours of making a reservation. Seats are limited and may not be available on all flights or all days. All fares, taxes and fees are in U.S. dollars and are subject to change without notice, and other restrictions apply. Passengers may check one bag for free. A second bag may be checked for $25. A fee of $100 will be assessed for each additional checked bag.
