The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan program received top marks for "Best Elite Level Program" and "Best Member Communications" at the 18th Annual Freddie Awards announced last week in Los Angeles. Based on votes cast by 392,000 frequent flyers, the awards are considered among the most prestigious consumer-generated honors in the industry.

Alaska also captured second-place honors for "Best Award" and "Best Web Site," as well as third-place awards for "Best Award Redemption," "Best Customer Service" and "Program of the Year."

"Alaska Airlines’ frequent flyer program is designed to reward and recognize our most loyal customers, and we’re honored they voted ours the best elite-level program out there," said Rick Rasmussen, Alaska’s director of loyalty marketing. "I would like to thank our customers for expressing their preference for Alaska and thank our incredible employees for delivering our frequent flyer benefits with warm and engaging customer service."

Introduced in 1988 by InsideFlyer magazine publisher Randy Petersen, the "Freddies" are named after commercial aviation pioneer Sir Freddie Laker. Laker founded Britain’s first all-jet carrier, Laker Airways Limited, in 1966. He died in February.

The Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has been a perennial favorite at the Freddie Awards. Mileage Plan members can earn and redeem mileage on more than a dozen airlines, including more major U.S. airlines than any other frequent flyer program. The program offers additional opportunities to earn miles through an extensive network of partners, including the Alaska Airlines Visa credit and debit cards, Mileage Plan Shopping, Mileage Plan Dining, Safeway and more than 30 hotel and car rental partners worldwide.

Alaska Airlines and sister carrier, Horizon Air, together serve 88 cities through an expansive network throughout Alaska, the Lower 48, Canada and Mexico. For reservations visit alaskaair.com.
