SEATTLE, May 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Customers can travel at ease on Alaska Airlines when they use the carrier’s new native Windows Phone application, available for free in the Windows Phone Store. The app can be used on all smartphones with Windows Phone 8 and later versions.
"We’re committed to making Alaska Airlines the easiest airline to fly and our newest app gives our customers mobile tools that make travel easy and fun," said Curtis Kopf, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of customer innovation. "Microsoft is a great Seattle neighbor and it’s been great to collaborate with them in creating this app for our customers."
As with Alaska’s native apps for iPhone and Android devices, the Windows Phone app enables users to purchase a ticket — including award travel — track a reservation and flight, select a seat, pay for checked bags, view your Mileage Plan balance, and synchronize future flights. By late May, version 1.1 of the Windows Phone app will boast Live Tile functionality, offering users easy access to essential day-of travel information like flight status and gate information. With this upgrade, users will also be able to pin a boarding pass directly to their Start screen and receive pop-up toast notifications.
"Windows is backed by a rich app ecosystem offering a variety of quality apps that take advantage of the platform’s unique features and design to enable users to get the most out of their device," said Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp. "Alaska Airlines has been on the forefront of mobile and their latest Windows Phone app makes excellent use of unique features of the phone to greatly simplify air travel with Seattle’s hometown carrier."
Alaska is a leader in using innovation to make flying easy and enjoyable. It was the first U.S. airline to enable online booking in 1995 and web check-in in 1999. Last month, Alaska became the first airline in the nation to enable customers to print their bag tags at home, making the "day of" travel experience easier and simpler. Last year, Alaska was the first airline in the world to launch Google Wallet on their mobile apps.
