Alaska Airlines announced that members of its Mileage Plan frequent flier program can earn double miles on Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air flights from May 6 through June 30, 2009. The double miles will also count toward status in the airlines’ MVP and MVP Gold elite-level programs.

The offer is in celebration of Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan being named "Program of the Year" at the 21st annual Freddie Awards, considered the highest honor a loyalty program can receive. This is the second consecutive year that Alaska Airlines has won "Program of the Year" and the fifth overall.

"Our customers voted us the best, and we’re thanking them with one of the most generous mileage offers we’ve had in years, with double miles that also qualify toward elite status in our program," said Steve Jarvis, Alaska’s vice president of marketing, sales and customer experience. "Our Freddie Awards success reflects the work of our employees. Their caring, professionalism and incredible dedication to service is indeed ‘North of Expected.’"

To qualify for double miles, Mileage Plan members must first register online at alaskaair.com. Double miles are valid on Bargain, Value, Full Flex and First Class fare categories for flights on Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. The offer is not valid on tickets booked in the Hot Deals category (G/T fare classes). Customers who wish to enroll in Mileage Plan can do so instantly at alaskaair.com and earn an additional 500 bonus miles.

Based on votes cast by more than 700,000 frequent fliers, the Freddie Awards are the most prestigious consumer-generated honors in the travel industry. In addition to "Program of the Year," Alaska received top honors for "Best Elite-Level Program," "Best Web Site" and "Best Program Communications." Alaska also won two second-place awards for "Best U.S. Award Redemption" and "Best U.S. Customer Service," plus a fourth-place honor for its Visa card program.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan offers some of the industry’s most attractive award levels when booking online, with Super Saver Awards starting at 7,500 miles one way and 15,000 miles round trip. Additionally, recent online innovations at alaskaair.com have made it easier for customers to see all award-seat options for one-way and round-trip itineraries on Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, including Super Saver, Choice and Full Flex award seats, coach and first-class seats, and award sale seats.

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, subsidiaries of Alaska Air Group , together serve more than 90 cities through an expansive network in Alaska, the Lower 48, Hawaii, Canada and Mexico. Alaska Airlines ranked "Highest in Customer Satisfaction among Traditional Network Carriers (tie)" in the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 North America Airline Satisfaction Study(SM).
