Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported March passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska’s March traffic increased 10.7 percent to 1.696 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.532 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during March was 2.099 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 5.2 percent higher than the 1.995 billion in March 2007.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 80.8 percent, compared to 76.8 percent in March 2007. The airline carried 1,537,000 passengers, compared to 1,448,200 in March 2007.

RPMs for the three-month period totaled 4.526 billion, an 11.3 percent increase from the 4.066 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the three months ended March 2008 increased 6.8 percent to 6.084 billion ASMs, compared to 5.694 billion in 2007.

The passenger load factor for the first three months of 2008 was 74.4 percent, compared to 71.4 percent in 2007. The airline carried 4,079,800 passengers, compared to 3,862,500 in 2007.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s March traffic increased 3.5 percent to 241.5 million RPMs from 233.4 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during March was 327.3 million ASMs, 0.5 percent lower than the 329.0 million in March 2007.

The passenger load factor for the month was 73.8 percent, compared to 70.9 percent in March 2007. The airline carried 659,500 passengers, compared to 594,100 in March 2007.

RPMs for the three-month period totaled 658.4 million, a 5.0 percent increase from the 627.0 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the three months ended March 2008 increased 1.8 percent to 942.1 million ASMs, compared to 925.1 million in 2007.

The passenger load factor for the first three months of 2008 was 69.9 percent, compared to 67.8 percent in 2007. The airline carried 1,851,600 passengers, compared to 1,608,600 in 2007.
