Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported July passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

Alaska’s July traffic decreased 2.1 percent to 1.633 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.668 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during July was 1.986 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 5.5 percent lower than the 2.102 billion in July 2004.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 82.2 percent, compared to 79.4 percent in July 2004. The airline carried 1,633,500 passengers compared to 1,652,500 in July 2004.

RPMs for the seven-month period totaled 9.847 billion, a 5.3 percent increase from the 9.352 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven months ended July 2005 decreased 0.1 percent to 12.899 billion ASMs, compared to 12.915 billion in 2004.

The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2005 was 76.3 percent, compared to 72.4 percent in 2004. The airline carried 9,716,800 passengers compared to 9,359,800 in 2004.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s July traffic increased 11.3 percent to 237.7 million RPMs from 213.5 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for July was 309.8 million ASMs, 8.7 percent higher than the 284.9 million in July 2004.

The passenger load factor for the month was 76.7 percent, compared to 74.9 percent in July 2004. The airline carried 610,200 passengers compared to 565,800 in July 2004.

RPMs for the seven-month period totaled 1.397 billion, a 16.6 percent increase from the 1.198 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the seven months ended July 2005 increased 9.7 percent to 1.941 billion ASMs compared to 1.769 billion in 2004.

The passenger load factor for the first seven months of 2005 was 72 percent, compared to 67.7 percent in 2004. The airline carried 3,723,000 passengers, compared to 3,286,600 in 2004.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual July operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
