Alaska Air Group Reports January Traffic

Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported January passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska’s January traffic increased 9.9 percent to 1.411 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.284 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 2.049 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 6.2 percent higher than the 1.930 billion in January 2007.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 68.9 percent, compared to 66.5 percent in January 2007. The airline carried 1,255,300 passengers, compared to 1,216,500 in January 2007.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s January traffic increased 7.2 percent to 205.1 million RPMs from 191.3 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 317.1 million ASMs, 4.9 percent higher than the 302.2 million in January 2007.

The passenger load factor for the month was 64.7 percent, compared to 63.3 percent in January 2007. The airline carried 586,000 passengers, compared to 501,600 in January 2007.

Prior-year operating statistics include operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress, which continue to be a factor in the year-over-year comparisons. Horizon’s operating agreement with Frontier Airlines ended in November 2007.
