Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported January passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska’s January traffic increased 3.7 percent to 1.295 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.249 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 1.878 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 3.5 percent higher than the 1.814 billion in January 2005.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 69 percent, compared to 68.8 percent in January 2005. The airline carried 1,238,300 passengers, compared to 1,231,400 in January 2005.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s January traffic increased 11.6 percent to 190.8 million RPMs from 171 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 294.6 million ASMs, 13.4 percent higher than the 259.9 million in January 2005.

The passenger load factor for the month was 64.8 percent, compared to 65.8 percent in January 2005. The airline carried 493,500 passengers, compared to 473,300 in January 2005.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual January operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
