Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported January passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

Alaska’s January traffic increased 10.8 percent to 1.249 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.127 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during January was 1.814 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 8.4 percent higher than the 1.674 billion in January 2004.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 68.8 percent, compared to 67.3 percent in January 2004. The airline carried 1,231,300 passengers compared to 1,122,200 in January 2004.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s January traffic increased 33.7 percent to 171.2 million RPMs from 128.0 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for January was 259.9 million ASMs, 27.7 percent higher than the 203.6 million in January 2004.

The passenger load factor for the month was 65.9 percent, compared to 62.9 percent in January 2004. The airline carried 473,800 passengers compared to 372,000 in January 2004.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual January operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
