Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported August passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

ALASKA AIRLINES

Alaska’s August traffic increased 4.8 percent to 1.719 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.640 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during August was 2.127 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 6.1 percent higher than the 2.005 billion in August 2005.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 80.8 percent, compared to 81.8 percent in August 2005. The airline carried 1,669,800 passengers, compared to 1,655,300 in August 2005.

RPMs for the eight-month period totaled 12.176 billion, a 6.0 percent increase from the 11.486 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the eight months ended August 2006 increased 4.8 percent to 15.616 billion ASMs, compared to 14.904 billion in 2005.

The passenger load factor for the first eight months of 2006 was 78.0 percent, compared to 77.1 percent in 2005. The airline carried 11,692,300 passengers compared to 11,372,100 in 2005.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s August traffic increased 7.7 percent to 254.6 million RPMs from 236.3 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during August was 330.6 million ASMs, 6.6 percent higher than the 310.0 million in August 2005.

The passenger load factor for the month was 77.0 percent, compared to 76.2 percent in August 2005. The airline carried 638,400 passengers compared to 608,500 in August 2005.

RPMs for the eight-month period totaled 1.814 billion, an 11.0 percent increase from the 1.634 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the eight months ended August 2006 increased 7.8 percent to 2.427 billion ASMs, compared to 2.251 billion in 2005.

The passenger load factor for the first eight months of 2006 was 74.7 percent, compared to 72.6 percent in 2005. The airline carried 4,604,800 passengers, compared to 4,348,500 in 2005.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated August operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
