Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported April passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

Alaska’s April traffic increased 8.7 percent to 1.387 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.276 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity for April was 1.812 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 1.5 percent higher than the 1.785 billion in April 2004.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 76.5 percent, compared to 71.5 percent in April 2004. The airline carried 1,362,000 passengers compared to 1,290,600 in April 2004.

RPMs for the four-month period totaled 5.284 billion, an 8.8 percent increase from the 4.856 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the four months ended April 2005 increased 3.1 percent to 7.182 billion ASMs, compared to 6.963 billion in 2004.

The passenger load factor for the first four months of 2005 was 73.6 percent, compared to 69.7 percent in 2004. The airline carried 5,213,400 passengers compared to 4,882,400 in 2004.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s April traffic increased 14.8 percent to 186.7 million RPMs from 162.7 million flown a year earlier. Capacity for April was 267.6 million ASMs, 5.4 percent higher than the 253.9 million in April 2004.

The passenger load factor for the month was 69.8 percent, compared to 64.1 percent in April 2004. The airline carried 504,500 passengers compared to 447,800 in April 2004.

RPMs for the four-month period totaled 726.3 million, an 18.5 percent increase from the 612.7 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the four months ended April 2005 increased 11 percent to 1,049.8 million ASMs compared to 946 million in 2004.

The passenger load factor for the first four months of 2005 was 69.2 percent, compared to 64.8 percent in 2004. The airline carried 1,979,400 passengers, compared to 1,715,100 in 2004.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual April operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
