Alaska Air Cargo has named Joe Samudovsky director of cargo sales, responsible for building cargo revenue opportunities at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air.

An air cargo veteran, Samudovsky spent more than 20 years at United Airlines in progressively responsible cargo roles, including sales representative, district sales manager, special account services manager and domestic and international mail manager.

"Drawing on his vast cargo experience, Joe will play a key role as we continue to expand and upgrade our cargo services," said Matt Yerbic, Alaska’s managing director of cargo. "As the leader of our cargo sales team, Joe will serve as a strong advocate for our cargo customers, ensuring they receive high-quality service."

Samudovsky earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from San Diego State University.

Alaska Air Cargo is investing $100 million to upgrade its cargo fleet and infrastructure. Alaska Airlines recently retrofitted five Boeing 737-400 aircraft into cargo configurations, increasing the carrier’s overall cargo capacity by 20 percent.

Transporting more than 150 million pounds of cargo annually, Alaska Air Cargo is the most extensive air cargo operation on the U.S. West Coast of any passenger airline. Alaska Airlines transports about 30 million pounds of fresh Alaska seafood from Alaskan fishing communities to Seattle, the Pacific Northwest and beyond each year.
