The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) presented Alaska Airlines its fourth consecutive Diamond Certificate of Excellence. The award recognizes the airline for achieving a 97 percent participation rate by its employees in the Aviation Maintenance Technician Awards program.

The FAA also honored three Alaska Airlines’ aircraft maintenance technicians with prestigious Diamond Awards for completing a minimum of 100 hours of training in 2004.

"These awards are a tribute to the commitment of Alaska Airlines to invest in the technical expertise of our technicians," said Fred Mohr, vice president of maintenance and engineering. "This investment translates into continuous improvement in safety, quality and operational performance."

In all, the FAA honored 746 of Alaska’s aircraft technicians who completed a combined 43,405 hours of initial and recurrent training. The awards were presented in a ceremony April 12 at the airline’s hangar at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The Aviation Maintenance Technicians Awards program began in 1991. Its purpose is to provide incentives for aviation maintenance technicians to participate actively in initial and recurrent training programs, either on their own or in programs subsidized by their employer.
