WHAT: Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air will unveil an $18 million plan
to transform customer check-in at Seattle-Tacoma International
Airport by the end of 2007. The "Airport of the Future" project,
which is designed to speed the check-in process and reduce
passenger waiting times, will replace the airlines' existing
ticket counters with kiosk-style check-in and bag-check areas.
Alaska Airlines introduced the "Airport of the Future" process
in 2004 at Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage,
Alaska. The project has since cut in half the average check-in
time for Anchorage customers. The "Airport of the Future"
concept has received a patent from the U.S. Patent Office.
