WHAT: Alaska Airlines will inaugurate nonstop service from Seattle to
Cancun, Mexico, as part of the airline's Mexico expansion plan.
The first flight, Flight 296, will be celebrated with
Mexican-themed festivities before it departs Seattle-Tacoma
International Airport Friday morning. The route is the first of
five new routes serving Mexico the airline will introduce
during the coming week as it increases Mexico capacity by 22
percent.
TIMELINE: 6:30 - 6:45 a.m. Members of the media receive gate passes
and are escorted through security lines
7 a.m. Festivities begin, mariachi band plays, and
gate agents dressed in traditional Mexican
attire pass out roses to travelers
7:20 a.m. Ribbon-cutting ceremony and remarks from
Alaska Airlines, Port of Seattle officials
7:35 a.m. Passengers board first nonstop flight to
Cancun
8:25 a.m. Flight departs
