Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air today released their first environment report. The comprehensive report tracks several key areas, including the airlines’ fuel-conservation efforts, greenhouse gas emissions and inflight recycling programs.

Significant highlights of the report include:
-- Together Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have reduced their carbon
dioxide emissions (per revenue passenger mile) by 23 percent since
2004. The reduction is largely due to the airlines' transition to more
fuel-efficient aircraft and numerous fuel-conservation projects.
-- In 2009, Horizon Air recycled 69 percent of its inflight waste,
leading the airline industry in recycling and composting. Horizon
Air's recycling efforts date back to the late 1980s.
