Alaska Air Group, Inc. today reported May passenger traffic for its subsidiaries, Alaska Airlines (Alaska) and Horizon Air (Horizon).

Alaska’s May traffic increased 7.9 percent to 1.496 billion revenue passenger miles (RPMs) from 1.387 billion flown a year earlier. Capacity during May was 1.931 billion available seat miles (ASMs), 6.9 percent higher than the 1.806 billion in May 2005.

The passenger load factor (the percentage of available seats occupied by fare-paying passengers) for the month was 77.5 percent, compared to 76.8 percent in May 2005. The airline carried 1,444,200 passengers, compared to 1,361,100 in May 2005.

RPMs for the five-month period totaled 7.063 billion, a 5.9 percent increase from the 6.672 billion recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the five months ended May 2006 increased 4.1 percent to 9.359 billion ASMs, compared to 8.987 billion in 2005.

The passenger load factor for the first five months of 2006 was 75.5 percent, compared to 74.2 percent in 2005. The airline carried 6,769,000 passengers, compared to 6,574,500 in 2005.

HORIZON AIR

Horizon’s May traffic increased 10.2 percent to 232.7 million RPMs from 211.2 million flown a year earlier. Capacity during May was 308.8 million ASMs, 6.1 percent higher than the 291.0 million in May 2005.

The passenger load factor for the month was 75.4 percent, compared to 72.6 percent in May 2005. The airline carried 585,000 passengers, compared to 555,900 in May 2005.

RPMs for the five-month period totaled 1.075 billion, a 14.6 percent increase from the 938.1 million recorded a year earlier. Capacity for the five months ended May 2006 increased 10.4 percent to 1.481 billion ASMs, compared to 1.341 billion in 2005.

The passenger load factor for the first five months of 2006 was 72.6 percent, compared to 70.0 percent in 2005. The airline carried 2,732,300 passengers, compared to 2,536,300 in 2005.

Horizon’s RPMs, passenger load factor and passengers are reported using actual May operating data for flights operated as Horizon Air combined with estimated operating data for Horizon’s regional jet service operated as Frontier JetExpress.
